Moving Your Mentality
The title of this newsletter contains "mindset," because that's what's most important in your improvement and growth. The first sale is always to yourself.
But the sale isn't always about projects or fees. It's often about accepting the fact that you're not a slowly evolving person, but a new person. Today is not your "terminal self." Just as you're different today from who you were a year ago, you'll be different again next year (or sooner). Making plans for the future as if that future is you as you are today is silly and inaccurate.
As you invest in your own growth and you build your self-worth, you can allow yourself, without fear, to become a new person. The failure to do so creates "backsliding."
For example, many people who have built successful businesses still act as though they are barely surviving. They hoard money, won't take prudent risks, and are afraid to act. Their success is current, but their mindset is still stuck in the past. I've seen people making high six- and seven figures wasting time trying to find the cheapest flights, best hotel deals, apply frequent flyer miles despite blackouts, and avoid a check that someone else might pick up.
To have achieved success and not enjoy it is nearly criminal. To subject family and friends to such dysfunctional behavior is horrible.
You have to become that complete new person, which means taking your mindset along for the ride. When I was fired, I sent my mindset on ahead. I acted like a confident, successful person. I flew first class, rented nice cars, wore expensive clothes. I went into debt further to escape debt altogether. My mindset improved my successful behaviors.
Is your mindset propelling you forward or holding you back? Are you still looking for cheap flights or considering owning your own plane?
