Omar and Per Se

Omar and Per Se

Mentor Member and pal Omar Khan cajoled me into visiting him in New York by offering a lunch at the Grand Havana room, with our work over Davidorf and Macallan, after grilled octopus and squid. For dinner, he and his wife, Leslie, took us to Per Se, an impossible table to secure at the hottest restaurant in New York.

Unlike most hyped chef-centered restaurants (such as Ducasse), Per Se provided one of the best meals I’ve ever had with absolutely gracious service, highlighted by pairings of wine for each course on the tasting menu which were NOT “the usual suspects.”

If you’re ever able, call in the chips and pull the strings, but do make a trip to Per Se (only 16 tables), the name of which may mean “significantly distinctive” in Latin, or be short for PERSEvere for the reservation!

I need more people to mentor like Omar! A public and warm thank you!
