The Dark Side
There was great speculation about “the dark side of the moon.” There might have been life forms there, vastly different formations, secrets of the universe. (The moon doesn’t revolve like the earth does.) We finally resolved almost everyone’s wonderment when we sent a satellite around it.
IN 1968!
I was a senior in college when we certifiably knew that the other side of the moon was, well, just like the side we were always viewing.
What’s in your life that you’ve never been able to, or taken the time to, examine or clarify? You don’t need rocket propulsion or escape velocity. You just need some courage.
You might not find a new life form, but you might find a new life.
What Part of A Gallon Don’t You Understand?
A health expert, questioned on one of the banal morning chatter shows pontificated that everyone should be combatting sweltering temperatures “by drinking three-quarters of a gallon of water daily.”
Now, check my math: A gallon comprises four quarts, and a quart two pints, and there are two cups to a pint. Hence, 12 cups get you the recommended water volume, or about one an hour, which is a hell of a lot easier to understand than “three-quarters of a gallon.”
If you think I’m being harsh, think of the cashiers who owe you 88 cents, and you give them 12 cents and ask for a dollar bill. Most just stare and ask why you’re giving them money! Or, quickly, if you have to replace your rectangular carpet, how would you quickly calculate the square footage? (See below)
Making the simple complex doesn’t make you an expert, only a poor communicator. Making the complex simple makes you a hell of a great consultant and coach.

Fads or Trends?
What’s the difference between a fad and a trend?
Fad: an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived and without basis in the object’s qualities; a craze. Think mood rings, pet rocks, Hula-Hoops, tail fins on cars.
Trend: a general direction in which something is developing or changing. Think remote work, electric and hybrid cars, miniaturization, streaming services.
The fads in business have been legion: management by walking around, open book management, left brain/right brain thinking, reengineering, good to great, in search of excellence, lean, agile, quietly quitting, and so forth. Personally, I view the trends as: encouraging employees to apply their full talents to the work and recognizing them for it; constant innovation; leading remote teams and individuals; and providing equal pay for equal performance.
What is your work focused on? If it’s the fads you’ll be out of work when they are. If it’s the trends, you’re here to stay.
Of course, if you’re a trend-setter, you’ll always have the strongest brand.
