The Tarnished Globes

The Tarnished Globes

The Golden Globe Awards just make me cringe. That level of self-absorption should cause the entire proceedings to implode.

You can measure “best” in terms of batting averages, or race finishes, most on-time arrivals, or least complaints. But in acting, or teaching, or coaching, or singing? The “best” is subjective at best! Yet the arbitrary voting and resultant “winners” mean more revenue, better salaries, and so on. So the studios and the actors compete, spend money, advertise to get the votes.

And yet we have so few, true “movie stars” today. It’s hard to hold “hype” in your hands!
