The Dreariness of the Privileged

The Tony Awards last night, while always done well and entertaining, highlighted the paucity of new ideas and originality on Broadway. It was replete with revivals and derivatives, and of course, the hackneyed political diatribe of one of the winners, Ali Louis Bourzgui. Among dozens of others he condemned fascists, colonizers, and billionaires, while standing there representing a ceremony exemplifying one of the greatest disparities of wealth in America. But he had a mic and his day in the spotlight.

Now, maybe, he can shut up and act.
