Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 7/13/15
This week’s focus point: We’ve made our annual pilgrimage to the Jersey Shore. There are thousands of people here in the water, on the sand, walking the boardwalk, enjoying their families. Fishing boats and dolphins make early morning forays for fish, gulls make continual raids on unprotected food, barkers call to you for games that are hard to win and prizes that are silly if you do. This is the American middle class vacation, and a wonderful thing it is. We become engulfed here watching a horizon we can barely imagine and a night sky that we can’t. The biggest problem is traffic, but with air conditioning, a zillion music choices, and kids on iPads (and no car about to overheat any more), so what? We don’t take enough time to stare at and share in life’s imponderables. Insights are important. As Tevye laments in Fiddler on the Roof looking at his kids, “I don’t remember growing older. When did they?”
Monday Morning Perspective: Any idiot can face a crisis. It is this day-to-day living that wears you out. — Chekhov
