Excuse Me, Would You Step Aside So That I Can Throw This?

Our priorities today seem to be to immediately find out what’s wrong with someone. Whether a political candidate, an appointee, a new hire, a potential promotion, a first date—we look for flaws and faults. And now, even if the person appears to be pretty good, we look into the distant past trying to find some imperfection that can be magnified as a weakness and deal breaker. We assume that they can’t grow, mature, learn, or improve (although, of course, we believe that we can).

You know all that stuff about “throwing the first stone” that we tend to ignore because it has (gasp!) religious implications? Well, at this rate, pretty soon we’re going to run out of rocks….
