I was having a problem with some software as part of a major purchase. The new equipment happened to be from a client of mine of 20+ years ago. None of my contacts was still there, and their service promise of 48 hours response (which I think is pretty bad) wasn’t even being observed.

I found on the internet one of my contacts there from long ago who now has his own business. But he knew of someone who knew of someone and later that same day a regional service expert was on the phone with me for over an hour helping me out.

They say that people go to Harvard less for an education than for the contacts. I can believe it.
