Houston, We Have A Problem

Houston, We Have A Problem

There are mechanical problems with Boeing’s spacecraft so that the two astronauts scheduled for an eight-day trip may have to spend months there—one estimate is next February. The spacecraft can’t be brought back remotely because Boeing removed the remote control mechanisms in order to reduce weight. There may be trouble with Elon Musk’s spacecraft bringing them home because the space suits they have won’t work in transferring to his craft. The list goes on and on.

The Chinese have had an unsuccessful rocket launch that allegedly has scattered space junk all over the place. What are the odds of this stuff striking communications satellites or even the space station?

There is no limit to what human error can foul up—including AI. We have more to fear from the former than the latter if history is any guide.
