Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 04/03/17
We all have a certain amount of energy. It differs, metabolically, from individual to individual, but we all possess 100% of our individual totals.
Until we begin to burn it up non-productively.
It requires energy to resent, to envy, to hold a grudge, to take umbrage, to hate, to feel guilt, to walk around in fear. People and events don’t steal our energy as much as we tend to sacrifice it for spurious and splenetic reasons.
When you feel you’re falling behind, overwhelmed, dealing with more than you can possibly handle, ask yourself if you’re operating with 100% of your energy available to invest, or if you’ve spent it for ridiculous reasons on other, trivial pursuits.
If you had an oil leak in the car or a water leak in your home or bad return on your investments, you’d stanch the flow and fix the problem.
Stop leaking energy. Focus on the productive and supportive in your life. Cynics have little energy (and are boring). Optimists have so much energy that they invigorate others.
It’s your choice.
Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.—Marilyn Monroe
