Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 3/05/18

Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 3/05/18

We were leaving Nevis last week when we were told at the airport (which is smaller than my house) that “the plane didn’t arrive last night” that constituted our morning flight to San Juan. (Shades of Fantasy Island!) No one at the airport knew anything, and the puddle jumper airline person didn’t show up for work. My computer flight tracker showed me that the plane was being flown in that morning and we’d get out as planned, and a woman from another airline processed the dozen of us.

In San Juan, Amex called to tell me that Boston may be closed to flights after 9 pm because of the huge storm. They recommended I overnight in Miami. But Jet Blue won’t automatically transfer checked bags to a “non-partner” and I believe in getting as close to home as possible in any case. Jet Blue was great in getting us two seats to JFK with extra leg room and no one else in our row. Amex then provided a car service to drive us three hours to our home and we arrived at 11 pm. The car had its own internet, as did Jet Blue.

Success isn’t merely a matter of planning, it’s a matter of replanning as we proceed. Plan Bs and even Plan Cs need to be called upon constantly. As I write this, my power is still out so no conventional internet is available. But I have a small Verizon gizmo that I use in places without internet service—right now in my own home!

I believe Mike Tyson said that every fighter entering the ring has a plan until he’s punched in the jaw. Then you go to other plans. The same in life.

But the point is: You don’t go down for the count.

Without leaps of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the excitement of possibilities. Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning. —Gloria Steinem

Major New High Value Experiences

Super Global Best Practices, London and Adelaide: I’ve gathered the best practices of entrepreneurs, boutique firm owners, solo practitioners, academicians, and authors to create a vibrant day of improved performance that will immediately increase your business results and decrease your labor intensity. I’m guessing people will be rushing out during breaks to change proposals, alter online work, and create new initiatives. AND the first five to register in the UK and Australia will be my guests for dinner!

Self-Esteem Growth: I’ve been asked to conduct this for a fourth time, this one in Washington, DC (perhaps there will be cherry blossoms). This isn’t remedial, but rather a limited-attendance, intense examination of how to improve confidence and self-worth continually, to fully realize your potential.

The Teleconference on Religion: No conversions expected, this is a friendly discourse on the origins, nature, and influence (or non-influence) of religion in today’s world. I’ll share some of my personal journey, and prompt you to consider some issues no matter what your beliefs. All proceeds will go to a local homeless shelter.
