Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 1/27/14

Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 1/27/14

January 27, 2014—Issue #227

This week’s focus point: Too many people have a default setting that focuses on the negative. They can receive overwhelming praise, but one misplaced and negative voice captures their complete attention. They sacrifice pragmatic excellence in the futile hunt for impossible perfection. They see something new or changed as a threat instead of an opportunity. They find a meaningless typo instead of a useful idea. Change the default setting. Assume you’ll be well served, you’ll have opportunity, you can improve. How we perceive life and what we do about it is not half the battle–it’s the entire conflict. Don’t forget what we consultants and speakers always must remind ourselves: Even an objection is a sign of interest. It’s apathy that’s deadly.

Monday Morning Perspective: Nowadays, people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. — Oscar Wilde
