Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 8/12/13

Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 8/12/13

August 12, 2013—Issue #203

This week’s focus point: It’s too easy to become distracted, which is why it happens so often. Steven Wright, the comedian, said, “I’d love to daydream, but I keep getting distracted.” Governments, corporations, athletes, entertainers–all get distracted and lose sight of their priority goals. My dog can chase a squirrel because that’s his calling in life, his career is being a dog. We need to stop chasing every mental squirrel that comes our way. Determine what three important things to accomplish tomorrow are, personally and professionally, schedule them in your calendar, and complete or accomplish them. I used to have a dog who could consistently catch squirrels. But after he caught them, he didn’t know what to do with them. They weren’t food or sustenance, and now there was nothing left to be done with them.

Monday Morning Perspective: The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations, and benefits. — Plutarch
