And So It Goes

And So It Goes

Russian invasion of Ukraine, Covid variants, anti-vaxers, truck blockades, riots in the streets, Capitol under attack, political polarization, climate change fears, natural disasters, drought, wildfires, blizzards, supply chain shortages, mask mandates, immigration, abortion, LGBTQ, BLM (and fears that you inadvertently say something that offends someone, somewhere), socialists, homelessness, progressives, the Supreme Court, Andrew Cuomo, anti-Asian bias, anti-Semitism, biased media. I know, I’ve still missed a lot. It sounds like Billy Joel and “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

Yet here we are. There will be another election is nine months, though  most eligible voters won’t vote and a minority will decide who controls Congress thereafter. We are resilient. We air our problems through the free (though thoroughly biased) media. We debate in public. We protest.

Over a million legal immigrants arrive in the US annually, and we’re not really sure how many illegal ones. They’re not arriving because it’s horrible here, and not always because it’s horrible where they’re coming from. They’re coming because of the opportunity here. The usually appreciate it more than those of us born here.
