Come On, Man! The Climate Change Hotel Conspiracy
I once had my own conspiracy theory. I believed that, no matter what temperature you set on the hotel room thermostat, it didn’t have an impact.
Then one day when the thermostat was broken—unlighted—the engineer fixed it and I told him I’d like it at 68° overnight. He told me that he’d “override” the system and make that happen. When I asked what he meant, he told me flat out that the hotel raised all temperatures at night automatically during the summer with the expectation that people wouldn’t realize it while asleep, saving money. Moreover, no matter how high or low I set the thermostat manually, there were upper and lower limits that couldn’t be exceeded unless he overrode them.
Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that no one is following you.
