Hobbies

Hobbies

I have a lot of hobbies. They're like therapy for me. I created a huge (40X40) Lionel model train layout in the carriage house of a rental property we own, and I became more immersed in building the scenery than in running the trains. I build model ships, planes, and armor, but I have to compensate for some mistakes I  make and could never compete in a competition. I don't build them seeking perfection or awards, just for some fun and peace. My American stamp collection, originating when I was 10, IS pretty formidable at this stage, but I don't pay attention to the condition of the gum on the back or the centering on the front, I just want the stamp for my albums. I'm not a fanatic.

I love fast cars. They're often in need of washing. You'll never find me looking under the hood cleaning the engine with cotton swabs. You'll find me driving the cars.

My point is that perfectionism is always to be avoided, in business and in life as a whole. You can never really enjoy yourself being in pursuit of the unreachable. (I love the definition of English fox hunting: “The unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible.” (Oscar Wilde)

My train set had crashes, derailing, some small fires, mechancal failures, bridges stuck, and power outages. Just like real life. I managed to overcome them. Just like real life.
