If You Can’t Keep Me Here, Maybe You Need A Better Act

If You Can’t Keep Me Here, Maybe You Need A Better Act

We have front row seats to the theaters we subscribe to locally, and they're pretty good. The problem, however, is for the occasional bomb we want to leave at intermission. My wife fears that it will look like front teeth knocked out, until one day I pointed out during intermission all the people leaving the theater.

When you pay for entertainment you also pay for the right not to watch or listen to it all, so long as you don't disturb others. (You are NOT entitled to “hoot” like a raving maniac, especially if you're over 14 years old.)

I'm the paying customers and I can make personal decisions, just as I do or don't for a standing ovation later (which seem to have become obligatory).

Just like restaurants servicng meals that are too large, substituting quantity for quality, entertainment is mistaking length for legitimacy. Keep it brief. If there's no intermission during a 90-minute or less piece, we won't walk out!
