The Dog Star: The Canine News
(The Dog Star is a symbol of power, will, and steadfastness of purpose, and exemplifies the One who has succeeded in bridging the lower and higher consciousness. —Astrological Definition)
When I take the dogs out in the morning around 6 am, they hit the yard before we get in the truck and drive for coffee and biscuits. They smell things in the yard—it’s about an acre—which often prompts one to look into what the other has found. I, of course, can see nothing unusual at all except for nondescript leaves and grass.
However, it occurs to me they’re reading the morning “newspaper.” They can tell what animals visited during the night, whether they were fearful or calm, male or female, large or small, and the direction in which they were headed. The dogs will often follow a scent into the trees and back into the yard.
Their newspaper is completely objective, neither red nor blue, it simply provides the facts about what transpired overnight to the independent observer (or sniffer).
It would be nice if our media simple revealed what happened without trying to rearrange the yard and dig up the dirt.
