What Are You Waiting For?

What Are You Waiting For?

When I find coaching clients “overwhelmed” (or even merely “whelmed”) I ask them to list the issues that are causing them stress. It’s often something like this:

• Recording a promotional video

• Getting tickets to a performance they want to see

• Following up on a very promising lead

• Upgrading their software backup

I ask them to seriously choose “what absolutely cannot wait?” In this list, it’s the promising lead. It won’t be as promising if you wait a day or a week. This is potential business which can support the rest of that list. The video won’t suffer, whether it’s done today, tomorrow, or next week, nor will the software upgrade. Your spouse, or partner, or Amex can follow up on your show tickets.

I’m not talking about procrastination (which is a form of fear) but merely: What can wait without any qualitative deterioration, and what will diminish in likelihood and/or quality if I wait?

That’s why I make the big bucks.
