Woke Me When It’s Over

Woke Me When It’s Over

I was reading a playbill the other night before a performance, and one actor, new to the company, was described as “non-binary” in the biographical sketch. No one else in the entire cast was described as “heterosexual” or “homosexual,” yet I know almost all the other cast members and they fit into the latter two categories. Why did this one person include what is a completely unnecessary bit of information? Why would anyone care about sexual identity in this situation?

Should I include in my speech introductions that I’m Catholic? Or include in my bio that I detest kale? Or that I can’t sing?

Are there no limits to this kind of demand that we all pay attention to everyone’s private lives and identities?
