Pop!

Pop!

I just blew up a balloon and popped it with a pin. It was thereby rendered useless.

You have to figure it cost $20 million or so to launch F22s and shoot a sidewinder missile, then send divers down to retrieve the junk.

Maybe the Chinese are merely trying to bankrupt us, launching cheap balloons that cost of fortune to shoot down.

News story: “Between November 1944 and April 1945, the Imperial Japanese Army launched about 9,300 balloons from sites on Honshu, of which about 300 were found or observed in the U.S. and Canada, with some in Mexico.” In Oregon, a woman and five children were killed trying to drag a crashed balloon, which they didn’t realize was armed, out of the woods.

That was 80 years ago. The Chinese are not exactly on the cutting edge here.
