Elasticity

Elasticity

Time is “elastic.” That is, it can be “stretched” to accommodate more than you think.

The key is to prevent “stiffness.” When someone asks me for an hour of my time, I ask, “Why do you need it?” or “What do you want to accomplish?” We tend to go to meetings because we're asked to be there or our name is on the invitation, even though there's no need for our presence. When people begin a sentence with, “Let me give you some background,” my reply is, “Why don't you ask me your question first so that I can determine whether I need background?”

Remember, you can always make another dollar but you can never make another minute.

Talk isn't “cheap.” It can cost you a fortune in terms of your time.
