Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 4/6/26

Alan Weiss's Monday Morning Memo

Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 4/6/26

Were you ever faced with the quandary in school where a test was stolen, many students had access to it, and if you didn’t also gain access you’d probably do worse than those who had obtained the answers? I see, daily, drivers who won’t pause to allow an oncoming car to turn left in front of them, causing a huge backup in the opposing lane. Fortunately, not all drivers are so rude, but what if they were?

That’s the basis of Immanuel Kant’s (1724-1804) philosophy: the Categorical Imperative basically asks, “What if everyone did that?” If you’re considering running a red light because no one’s around and you’re above the law, what if everyone did that? We’d have a lot more carnage on the roads. What if everyone accepted a stolen test, or snuck into a club in which they’re not a member, or didn’t return personal items they found? Life would be a lot rougher, a lot less forgiving.

Kant believed we’re governed by rules irrespective of the outcome. Lying to people sometimes saves them embarrassment and despair, but he felt the observance of rules which govern good and bad (ethical and unethical) behavior were the governors, not the outcomes.

Forty million Americans eligible to vote did not do so in the 2020 presidential election, and about twice that in 2024. (Pell Research)What if everyone did that?About 15% of people cheat on their taxes. (IRS) That’s a $600 billion shortfall. What if everyone did that? How are the roads paved, the police hired, airports staffed?

I disagree with Kant in that sometimes we should lie to avoid people hearing damaging information that might cause them even more harm, or to give them comfort when situations are dire. But I do agree that we have to judge our own actions in terms of the jeopardy of everyone joining in. Consider that the next time you think about cutting a corner, not wearing your seat belt, or offering unsolicited advice. (Or unsubscribing or walking out because some opinions make you feel uncomfortable or challenge your beliefs!)

The most common lie is that which one lies to himself; lying to others is relatively an exception. —Friedrich Nietzsche

Disinformation is more than just lying: it's the denial and twisting of reality in order to present some desired image to the rest of the world. —Will Hurd

He lies when he says “hello.” —Pep Nevotny, our high school football coach

This is not for those who need more tactics. It’s for those who seek an identify shift to shamelessly build brand and command the income justified by their value. Objectives:

  • The economic prism to best evaluate opportunities and clients
  • Creating and justifying high fees without guilt or trepidation
  • Exploiting the reasons buyers pay six- and seven-figure fees
  • Before and beyond a brand: a repositioned identity
  • Creating a business that serves your life, not the reverse

Topics and Discussions

  1. The economics of expertise
    • Better positioning trumps “more leads”
    • The active volcanoes of IP
    • Revenue depends on value clarity
    • The supremacy of recognized value
  2. Continual value creation
    • The psychology of capturing value and ignoring price
    • Offensive, not defensive proposals
    • Walking your talk, talking your walk
  3. Surpassing “trusted advisor”
    • The IA (indispensable authority)
    • The myths of likeability and accessibility
    • Distance without arrogance
    • Rejecting positive and dysfunctional relationships
  4. The authority/brand/gravity alchemy
    • Visibility is not authority
    • Thought leadership is framing, not solving
    • To market upward you can’t go sideways
  5. The ROI journey begins at the destination
    • There must be “reasonable certainty”
    • Work backwards from outcomes
    • Confidence and competence over credentials
    • Your internal transformation
  6. Road closed, do not proceed
    • Scaling is something you do to fish
    • Only profitable growth makes sense
    • The “E” word is elevation, not expansion
    • Your life cannot serve your business

Who should attend?

  • Experienced consultants, speakers, coaches in any field
  • Those seeking a great lifestyle, not a specific monetary goal
  • People who can openly share and be honest with colleagues
  • Those who feel their talents and value can be spread much farther
  • Those who feel under-valued and under-appreciated

Applicants will be “curated” to ensure proper interactions.

$2,500 per person

$3,500 to include second morning with Q&A with Alan demonstrating transition needs for each attendee

$7,500 to include four hours of one-on-one coaching in 30-60-minute segments within six months, flexibly scheduled

$10,000 includes dinner with Alan one-on-one in a great restaurant

You will no longer struggle for client affection, selection, or projection. You’ll be chosen because of your identity and authority.

Summary: You’re not “buying” information or tactics, you are investing in a new way of thinking about yourself, the market, and long-term, sustainable immediate and passive income for your value.
