Bird Brains

Bird Brains

I used to think that the squirrels were responsible for emptying out my bird feeders so rapidly. So I invested in “squirrel-resistant” feeders that actually work as claimed: Only one acrobatic squirrel ever managed to dine there, and he eventually gave up.

Now, the feeders empty even more rapidly. Apparently, the squirrels kept a lot of birds away. “Eats like a bird” is about as stupid a saying as, “The early bird gets the worm” (the early worm gets eaten, after all). So now I have to fill the feeders twice a week instead of once. But the birds are fun to watch and we’ve had 44 different types here thus far. (Did you know that birdwatching is the most popular recreational sport in America?)

How many issues are  you deciding—or are your clients deciding—based on some dumb aphorism that no longer obtains? My friends and I  wasted a lot of potentially fun hours when we were young waiting exactly an hour after eating before going in the water. And  a lot of companies today seem to think that high tech without high touch is the way to save money.

It’s not, it’s the way to go out of business.
