Do We Need Awards Shows At All?

Do We Need Awards Shows At All?

The Emmys last night proved to be still another snooze fest, with two dullards from Saturday Night live hosting in an apparent attempt to demonstrate that being funny is not important in the job requirements. Most of the people present were either unidentifiable or will be completely gone from public view in the next year. And the legitimate talent in attendance (how I loath the word “artists” bandied about in these ceremonies) embarrassingly lend their gravitas to such self-indugent, lethargic proceedings.

And despite being nominated quite some time ago, and dressing to the gills in free clothing and jewelry, so many winners were “shocked” that they won, and didn’t quite know what to say! Listen, you had a one in five (or whatever) chance, better than Vegas.

We record the show and blast through it to see if anyone says something really stupid, or is drunk, or gets up on stage and utters a political profanity for no reason. We hit one of three.

Fair balance: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is, indeed, one of the very best things on TV in quite some time, deserving of all those awards.

Ozark S2 was surprisingly good, working through Blacklist (an original AJW recommendation) – Spader’s cadence never gets old, will check TMMM
