My 14 year old daughter, viewing life over my shoulder, has just fallen in love with them.
I find them particularly cute when they step out of the water, dry out and ‘Poof!’ One instant feathered ball of fluff.

    Any fish in that pond?

Yes, perch, sunnies, bass, some others. We saw “our” eagle a couple of days ago flying off with a good sized fish in its talons. We also have frogs and turtles, including some huge snappers. You can see pictures of the snapper on older blog posts here. We’ve had muskrats, river otters, swans, etc.

He’s only killed one (full grown) goose that I know of. They’re safe in the water, but the problem is that the parents walk them all over our property. Geese might mate for life and be two-parent families, but they are dumb as dirt, as far as I can tell. One of these parents is banded on the ankle, so it was previously caught by the fish and wildlife people.

What a delight! How do you keep them ‘safe’ from Koufax (…or does he distinguish between fowl and rodents)?
