Human Nature Isn’t Always Olympian

Human Nature Isn’t Always Olympian

I see the Olympics as such a noble, globally unifying ideal. Yet we keep score of the medal count. We raise an event winner’s flag and play that country’s national anthem. People are disqualified for using performance enhancing drugs or just plain cheating. A soccer team used a drone to illegally to view a rival’s practice. The subjective evaluations in sports such as figure skating or gymnastics are often tainted by biased judges using political animosities.

The original Olympic motto is made up of three Latin words : Citius – Altius – Fortius. These words mean Faster – Higher – Stronger.

Maybe, in all honesty, we should add “no matter what it takes.”
