I’m Afraid to Tell You, But….

I’m Afraid to Tell You, But….

A lot of people who are afraid to market, who are afraid of rejection, are now hiding behind the position that it’s not safe to travel and they’re afraid to travel. Very few of them are going to earn a living by staying at home. I would think they’d be more afraid of poverty.

Very true. In addition, there are some (and I have a couple of these clients) who use ‘the current situation’ as an excuse not to do other things they need to do marketing-wise. I actually got responses like “with everything going on in the news, I don’t think people want to read our newsletter” or “having a sale now seems so inappropriate because everyone is so depressed” — And they are not talking about ‘stay-at-home’ orders or quarantines.

Those who are “afraid to market”, as you called them Alan, will use any excuse for what is called ‘call reluctance’ when referring to salespeople.

The good news is that most of them listen as I try to pull them out from the depths of their own depression/misery…
