Looking Through the Glass

Looking Through the Glass

Some glass is transparent. You can see through it. Some is translucent. You can see vaguely through it. And some glass in opaque. You can’t see what’s on the other side.

When people have agendas (abortion, immigration, vaccination, the “right,” the “left,” and so on) through which they view all events and all people, they are at best using translucent glass and usually slide toward the opaque. They don’t care about what’s on the other side. They are right and the other side is wrong. If you don’t agree, you’re an inferior.

When people have an open mind, they are at least translucent and sliding toward the transparent. They want to understand what’s on the other side.

I think it was Lord Acton who observed, “There is no one as corrupt as the morally certain.” Today, we call it “moral narcissism.”
