Send in the Clowns

Send in the Clowns

Every time I watch a televised political debate of either party I think of a circus. The moderators are the ringmasters and the candidates are the various daredevils and “acts.” It’s an insult to the intelligence—shouting over each other, not answering the questions that are asked, denying statements and positions from the past. Are we spending our time on information or entertainment?

At least at a circus you respect people for doing what they promised to do for your ticket.

In last night’s debate, I also feel like the audience contributed to the circus atmosphere, with all their booing and cheering. Whatever happened to decorum?
