All of my dogs over the years, different breeds and mixtures, male and female, large and small, have shared a common trait: They move quickly. Dogs rarely merely walk (unless they’re tethered to a human being who always simply walks). They trot as a normal pace, but will often run, and frequently sprint. Moving to a new room is a trot, the anticipation of going for a ride creates a run, and a squirrel requires a sprint.

I don’t see many people trot to make referral calls or write a blog entry, or run to get into a buyer’s office, or sprint to make a speech or run a meeting. They’re much more deliberate, much slower, sometimes barely moving. It’s like they’re the ones on the leash.
