The Rip Tide Principle

The Rip Tide Principle

You escape a rip tide by, perhaps counterintuitively, by swimming perpendicular to it (parallel to the shore) and not against it.

Think about escaping the client “rip tide” in the same manner. Instead of trying to help recruit people to replace lost talent, why not use the opportunity to see if the operation can perform as well—or even better—with fewer people and less talent?

We often replace bodies in jobs without ever questioning whether we need the jobs.
