Toxic Workplaces? How About Toxic Employees?

Toxic Workplaces? How About Toxic Employees?

Foxwoods Casino and Hotel in Connecticut has about 3,000+ employees. We went to see a show in their Great Cedar Showroom last night and everyone (valets, dealers, pit bosses, secrurity people, theater staff, etc.) was extremely polite and helpful. It was so impressive that I'm writing about it. If they can do that, why can't the local coffee shop or pharmacy, where you often encounter rude and uncaring people?

The difference is leadership, and creating consequence for both the correct and incorrect behavior. At the casino, a dealer will remind you that you failed to place a bet on a number your were consistently playing. At CVS a guy at the drive-thru window shouted at me, “Spell your name!!” when he couldn't find it on the computer screen, which was his fault.

It's all about leadership.
