(The Dog Star is a symbol of power, will, and steadfastness of purpose, and exemplifies the One who has succeeded in bridging the lower and higher consciousness. —Astrological Definition)

Yesterday we’re on our coffee run and a new employee is at the window at Dunkin’ Donuts. While the coffee is being prepared I ask if she has any dog biscuits. She says, regrettably, “No,” but then she offers to make the dogs a little “sundae” with donuts and cream. “Thanks,” I said, “but that’s not going to be very good for them.” She returns with the coffee and says, “How about some ham?” (they make breakfast sandwiches). I accept that, and divide three large pieces, one-third for Coco and two-thirds for Bentley.

As I’m driving home, I note that Bentley is not at his usual position at the rear, right window. He’s staring at me from about a foot away. And I know what he’s thinking:

“We’ve been coming here for eight years and this is the first time you thought to get meat?”
