Uncompromisable

Uncompromisable

I heard on the news this morning that a tribal leader in Massachusetts has said that he would settle for nothing less than Columbus Day being officially replaced by Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and that no excuse for an “Italian Heritage Day” would be acceptable or legitimate. It has to be a complete replacement.

That sounds somewhat racist to me. There’s no compromise, no mutual understanding?

“Presentism” is the act of applying contemporary mores to acts of the distant past for retribution. I’m wondering if the sociologists of 200 years hence will practice their own, and cite people of today—and our descendants—as “polarizers” and intransigents.

Apparently, it’s insufficient that you merely win, anyone who disagrees must “lose.”
