“When I’m 64” (The Beatles)

“When I’m 64” (The Beatles)

Have you noticed that entrepreneurs in professional services (law, accounting, consulting, design, coaching, business owners in general, etc.) tend to “work” later in their lives than people in organizational life? That’s not because the former need the money, it’s because they generally love what they do and have no self-constraints or external constraints on their ages. Most are refugees from large companies.

People in organizational life, however, have forced retirements, limits on their assignments (commercial pilots actually can’t legally fly after age 65), and face biases about their competence perpetrated by customers and even their own companies. (And there are those who simply look forward to “retirement” and occupy themselves until they die.)

As you examine life choices and your future, think about that long and hard.
