People are stealing pumpkins from private homes, just like “porch pirates” steal package deliveries. This isn't about the economy or the government shutdown or the eliminations on Dancing with the Stars. It's about a huge feeling of entitlement. If something is there and the consequences for taking it are low, then take it. (Note that some moronic city councils have determined that shoplifting under a certain amount of monetary value isn't a crime and there should be neither arrests nor prosecutions.)

If you're unsuccessful in life, take no accountability for it but rather blame others who have worked harder as “undeserving,” than your past oppression and unfair treatment entitles you to take what you want if it's unlikely you'll be caught or punished.

One answer is a large dog, which is always focused on doing a good job, accepting accountability, and never feels oppressed or entitled, but rather very happy to be contributing.
