A Little Sermon

A Little Sermon

I’ve concluded that the problem with sermons in church—and 85% of them are pretty awful—is twofold: The minor point is that the clergy is never really educated well in how to deliver them. The major point is that they tend to be admonishing, demanding, and condescending. They should be about how we can improve our lives.

It’s been wryly observed that the Jews created guilt but the Catholics perfected it! I’m thinking that the focus ought to be on success (which is preventive) and not atonement (which is contingent).

Do the right thing the first time and you won’t have to atone or confess so much later.
