Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 08/26/2024
Logical Fallacies or Hypocrisy?
• If highway safety and climate concerns are such priorities, why do we allow the manufacture and sale of cars that can go up to 200 miles-per-hour?
• If we know that cigarette smoking causes cancer with high rates of death, why haven’t we phased out the industry over the years since we became aware of it?
• If Democrats really believe that they have the absolute best answers and best candidates, and that Donald Trump is evil personified, why do they also consistently state that “It’s going to be a very close election?”
• If Republicans are really disturbed by Donald Trump’s verified falsehoods and inappropriate belittling of opponents, why did they nominate him and rally around him?
• If we’re concerned about quality education for our children, why do we support a primary and secondary educational configuration (“warehousing” children by age and not progress) that was begun in the US in 1785?
• If we care about the climate and honesty, why would we listen to anyone who flies to a climate conference (or athletic event, or political rally, or entertainment venue) in a private jet?
• If God is still anathema to many people who want no hint of religion in their lives at all (or for the rest of us on public property), why aren’t they lobbying successfully to have God’s name removed from our currency and court rooms?
• If people have flown on an airplane more than once before, why are some of them so surprised and belligerent when the person in front of them reclines the seat?
• If my wife and I are dining alone in a restaurant, why does the server say “we” instead of “you,” as in, “Are we finished enjoying our dinner?”
• If the number of initials after your name has any bearing on your expertise and/or success, then the more initials the better off you are, right? (But that ain’t necessarily so.)
• If the call is being monitored and recorded for quality purposes, why doesn’t the quality of the response ever improve?
• If you’re really just asking something for a friend, why doesn’t anyone ever believe you?
I’m just sayin’….
Hypocrisy is not a way of getting back to the moral high ground. Pretending you’re moral, saying you’re moral is not the same as acting morally. —Alan Dershowitz
Hypocrisy is a detriment to progress. There’s always a hidden agenda. —Larry Flynt
We must take positions. Our weakness in the West is born of the fact of so-called “objectivity.” Objectivity does not exist—it cannot exist! The word is a hypocrisy which is sustained by the lie that the truth stays in the middle. No, sir: Sometimes truth stays on one side only. —Oriana Fallaci
NEW: The Esteem Machine
Low self-esteem creates high stress levels, guilt, and fear, and “masks” natural talents. You can never succeed to the utmost of your abilities if you’re worried about being “found out” and constantly concerned about how to “wear a costume” pretending you’re someone else.
Join me for 90 minutes and I’ll help you design a program for yourself that you can implement and follow by yourself, daily, to create a far greater sense of confidence and certainty about your true value and worth.
I’ve been helping people do this for 25 years in both corporate and entrepreneurial settings. However, this is the first time I’ve codified it so that, once the process is mastered, you need no further coaching or external support.
In other words, I’ll help you gain the esteem to perpetually power your Esteem Machine.
