Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 1/1/13

Alan Weiss’s Monday Morning Memo® – 1/1/13

January 7, 2013—Issue #172

This week’s focus point: Our puppy, Bentley, used to run out the kitchen door into the yard, look around, often see a squirrel to his right at the nearest trees, and chase it. After a week, he would run out and immediately look to his right. Now, he runs out and immediately RUNS to his right. He’s three months old. That’s what I call a strong learning curve. I meet too many people who get tangled up inside their own heads, debating what to do when simple action with virtually no downside (there is no squirrel, which has cost only three seconds to determine) should be undertaken. Applied learning is about using your prior knowledge to improve your performance, not merely repeat it. Call it “puppy wisdom.”
