Disagreeing

About a third of the interviews I do—and I do quite a few every month—have hosts who use the guests merely as an excuse to talk about themselves and their own views. I don’t mind this because I bring them to a screeching halt by explaining that I think they’re wrong about a given point. They’re taken aback, and I simply state, “Our experiences differ. Here’s what I’ve found….”

This brings the emphasis back to you and informs them that you’re doing them a favor by being there, and the listeners have tuned in to hear you. When you’re obsequious with an interviewer, then what’s the basis for your expertise or thought leadership? How are you an object of interest?
