Don’t Forget Where You Came From

Don’t Forget Where You Came From

“It’s a nice place to have been from,” I often hear people say, denigrating their roots, their origins, because they’ve “made it.” I guess I’ve “made it” by most standards, but I never forget my roots (in fact, there’s a web site group devoted to Union City, New Jersey, and I’ belong to it).

Hence, we visit the Jersey Shore every year (other coasts have beaches, but Jersey has “the shore,” which Billy Joel sings about in “Allentown”). I’ve been to Bora Bora, Fiji, the Great Barrier Reef, all across the Caribbean, over 60 countries—but it’s comforting to return to your roots.

Perhaps I’ve “made it” but I always “make it back.”

Don’t forget where you came from.
