Enough Is Enough

Enough Is Enough

Anything taken to an extreme is usually dysfunctional. Barry Goldwater, Republican candidate for president, lost the election by saying things like this: “Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice.” He said that in his convention acceptance speech in 1964. He lost in a landslide.

Too much excellent food will cause problems. Too much work, vacation, exercise, entertainment—you name it, is going to cause stress, low productivity, anxiety, physical problems, alienation. Too much “service” in the restaurant causes interruptions, not a more gracious dining experience. It’s nice to arrive someplace early, but not at the sake of safety.

Allow other people’s views. Don’t demand everyone agree with you. Accept imperfections, they’re the norm. When you enjoy something, don’t seek more and more of it as if you can never get enough. You can get more than enough.

And that includes advice, so I’ll stop here.

Amen and Happy Father’s Day Alan to you and yours.

Your thoughts remind of Gandhi who apparently said: “I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians.’

“Servant leadership” like “strategic planning” is an oxymoron. Leadership is service. And sometimes the best service is telling someone where to go.

“Niche marketing” is another form of extremism, especially in boutique consulting/coaching. An “acquaintance” shared with me over coffee (which was a complete waste of time btw) that one of her colleagues specialized in coaching pastors. My response was, “What happens when the pastors go out of business, which is not that far-fetched, does your friend shift to coaching Rabbis? That was the last time I saw her.

Your book on Life Balance is terrific in of itself, but moreso because you live it.

Enjoy the day and many thanks always…
