I bought a new computer. I received a new credit card processing machine. And the phone guy had to repair my office phone lines. So all the connections underneath my desk and credenza had to be examined.
They turned out to be i nightmare of Gordian Knots. I decided to dive in, flashlight in my teeth, and make sense of the chaos. I found five connections—five—that went nowhere. There were plugs in the sockets, but empty connectors at the other end, the fossils of some extinct devices long gone.
How much are you doing that no longer has a connection to your business? Are you doing reports, or backups, or followups that no one cares about and which have no impact? Take a look at the apparent connections in your business model and jettison those that lead nowhere.
