    Perhaps it’s just me, but why do we say “Happy Fourth of July”? We don’t say, “Happy January First” or “Happy Fourth Thursday in November.” I suppose it’s a pet peeve, but am I the only one who is bothered by this?

    I prefer to mention the reason the 4th is special, as in “Happy Independence Day,” but even that seems specious, since the resolution for independence was passed on July 2, not July 4.

    July 4 was the day Congress accepted and adopted the language of the Declaration of Independence. So, I guess if we wanted to be pedantic, we should be saying, “Happy Declaration of Independence Day.”

    That is overly cumbersome, so we typically just use the shorthand. 😉
