In St. Lucia

In St. Lucia

I’m writing this from my open-air room at the Ladera Resort in St. Lucia. A black bird just flew in, landed on the chair next to me as if to critique my writing, got bored and left. The rooms are equipped with water guns to discourage the birds from stealing food. They need to upgrade them to a larger caliber.

The netted, four-poster bed is on the level above. I’m reclined on the couch looking over my waterfall and heated pool to a six hundred or so foot drop to the Atlantic. The mountains on either side rise up several hundred more feet.

This is the annual meeting of the Million Dollar Club. We traveled three hours from Miami to the Eastern Caribbean, then an hour’s serpentine ride up to Ladera from the airport. It’s worth every minute.

The tiny tree frogs make a racket at night, there are lizards of considerable size roaming around, and the birds arise quite early. We’re sharing the place with all of them. I plan to be good company.

The first time I traveled to St Lucia, I knew that I had landed in paradise. With lush mountains, fresh fruit everywhere and secluded coves, St Lucia is picture perfect Caribbean. Ladera Resort is then the Caribbean resort.
