Lessons

Lessons

I was the “relief pitcher” in church last evening when the scheduled lector was ill and I was asked to fill in at the last minute. All went well (I believe that too much practice makes us “stale” and takes off the edge).

On  the way out after Mass a man I don’t know stopped me and told me he thought I had done a terrific job. I thanked him and he said, “You must be a teacher.”

I thought for a moment and said, “Well, yes, I am.”

“I knew it!” he said, and we went on our way.

Remember when it was assumed that teachers were superb professionals, were respected, and provided great role models? My wife, sister, and niece are or were teachers. People were proud their kids were becoming teachers.

Talk about a change in society….
