Nantucket 2012—2

Nantucket 2012—2

We had to raise the Bentley’s height to negotiate the cobblestone streets and then the huge gullies on the dirt roads leading to the beach across the island. The Ferraris never would have made it.

There’s no air conditioning but a superb ocean breeze takes care of things. We dined at Toppers at the Wauwinet, everyone was welcoming on out 17th year, and Mitch bought the drinks at the bar. Greg organized an excellent Batard Montrachet.

Driving home at night with the top down, utter blackness surrounding you, 78 degrees, twisting island—that’s living.

Today, we had to shop for our two weeks of provisions, and I was waiting for Maria in the car when a man and his wife stopped by, said, “You’re Alan Weiss. I read all your stuff, and you’ve helped my career tremendously!”

My disguise isn’t working.
