Nuts

Nuts

I’m watching the squirrels from my den window. They’re hopping around the trees, running across the lawn, trying to snatch some bird food from the feeders, looking for nuts, engaged in the seriousness of mating season (though I’ve never seen a baby squirrel). They are not worried about the coronavirus, or rabies, or skin infections, or even my dogs.

One might say that’s because they’re stupid rodents.

Or, one might say, it’s because they’re too busy trying to earn a living and feed the family.
