Speed Consulting

• Look for cause, not blame.

• Validate everything, never trust an opinion.

• Make it clear that you are responsible only to the buyer.

• Seek evidence in the environment and observed behavior.

• You can’t remove a problem unless you remove its cause.

• You can’t improve performance unless you know what will cause and sustain it.

• People are motivated by applying their talents and gratification from the work.

• “Transference” occurs when people unhappy with something they feel they can’t complain about complain about something else entirely.

• Communication is as much about listening as speaking.

• Almost every discussion about strategy quickly devolves into tactics unless you prevent it.

• Never accept an arbitrary alternative (“We need a three-day leadership development program”).

• There is no reason in the world to interview anyone in your client organization for more than 30 minutes.

• Common sense trumps every consulting model you ever learned or will ever hear about.

Thank you. But at my wife’s boutique where she works one day a week, they call me “The Prince.”
